Can I refreeze thawed dishes?
Our dishes are shipped frozen in an insulated carton with cooling elements.
Exception: Deliveries within Berlin via Logitrax and deliveries to the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg are made in refrigerated trucks and therefore do not include insulation and cooling elements.
If the ice packs have thawed or the dry ice has evaporated upon arrival, this is not a problem. What matters is whether your dishes are still sufficiently chilled.
Here's how you can quickly check whether everything is fine:
The quick check at home
1. Ice packs / dry ice – Have the ice packs thawed or the dry ice evaporated?
No need to worry! This shows that the cooling agents have done their job. This alone does not mean that the dishes are no longer sufficiently chilled.
2. Sauce pieces – Are the sauce pieces already slightly soft?
That's normal! Sauces often contain salt or oil, which means they thaw a little faster.
3. Vegetables – Are the vegetables still frozen?
Great! If the vegetables still feel frozen and move loosely in the packaging when shaken, everything is perfectly fine! In that case, you can simply put the dishes in the freezer or prepare them straight away.
My dish is slightly thawed
If all the ingredients are stuck together in a large block, this may mean your dish has partially thawed. In this state, the dishes can still be kept in the fridge for up to 2 days at 3–7 °C without any loss of taste or quality.
My dish is fully thawed
If a dish is no longer cold and nothing appears to be frozen, we advise against consuming or refreezing it. This can affect the taste, nutritional value and shelf life.
